Six Transition Pieces to Wear Season After Season

If you’re lucky enough to live in a climate where you get to experience different seasons, you need a wardrobe that reflects that as well.  Some clothing items deserve to stay in your closet all year round.  More than likely these are your staple wardrobe pieces.  Here is a list of those must-have pieces that can be dressed up or down and are flexible enough to transition between the fashion seasons.

JEAN JACKET

Cold:  Wear a cashmere sweater underneath and your jean jacket will serve as  your second layer.  As it gets even colder outside, just add a pea coat or puffer over your jean jacket and now you have a third layer.

Warm:  A jean jacket is a perfect layer over a sundress.  It can be teamed up with a pencil skirt, fun shirt, and heels/boots for a business casual look.

CASHMERE CARDIGAN

Cold:  Wear a long-sleeved cotton or silk top under your cashmere cardigan.  Add a jacket when heading outdoors.

Warm:  Wear it open and loose over a tank, with pants.  Use it as cover-up over your summer dress, when the temps are cooler on a summer night.

–> A light-weight cashmere cardigan will transition well through the seasons.

TANK TOP

Cold:  Long tank tops make great layering pieces under a cashmere crew neck sweater.  If you have a clothing item that is a bit shorter in length, your tank will also give you the coverage you need.

Warm:  A long tank top is a perfect layer under sheer tunics or paired under a lightweight eyelet top/dress.

–> Seamless tanks can be purchased at most stores and boutiques. Neutral colors are best because you will get so much use out of them.

DARK WASH JEAN

Cold:  Add an ankle boot with your boot cut jean or tuck your slim ankle jean into your riding boot. Another great option is to add a heel with either style jean for a dressed up or casual look.

Warm:  Wear a strappy heeled sandal and loose top with your slim jeans.

–> Slim ankle jean and boot cut dark jeans are two great choices.

LBD or LND (Little Black Dress or Little Neutral Dress)

Cold:  When the temps get cooler, opt for a cashmere layer over your dress.  For another layer, start with a button down shirt or thin cashmere/ cotton t-shirt under the dress.  Add tights and booties or tall boots.

Warm:  Dress it up or down with strappy sandals, heels,or flat sandals and add your favorite jewelry.

–> Black is not everyone’s best color.  Choose a neutral colored dress that works best with your coloring, in a fabric that can be worn year round.

WOOL SCARF

Cold:  Wrap a lightweight wool scarf around your neck and bundle up under a coat or poncho.

Warm:  Use it as a perfect wrap to throw over your shoulders or use when traveling.

–> Choose a lightweight option, so you can utilize it year round.  Look for a patterned print or bright color for an accent piece.
